Cheap Caribbean travel: how cheap do you want to be? |

There's some kind of mystical untruth that it costs an arm and a leg to vacation in the Caribbean.
Well, yes, it can cost you an arm and a leg, depending on where you go, and depending on when you go.
So, having said that, if it was me, and if I was you, I'd check out the high and low seasons of the Caribbean vacation travel season to demystify the whole issue--if you do, you'll soon see some patterns emerge--patterns that can save you a bundle.
Pattern number one: a lot of Europeans travel to the Caribbean in the summer; they travel in the summer to take advantage of great hotel discount opportunities. (Yes, the weather is nice in Europe in the summer, but their scuba diving can't hold a patch to Caribbean diving--so they travel when it's warm in Europe, even though they finally get a short break from the cold weather. Certainly, this is ironic, but as I stated--their diving is not in the same class as good Caribbean diving.)
In other words, they plan to take advantage of cheap Caribbean travel when the "not always the most travel savvy" North Americans are staying away from the Caribbean in the summer--they think it's too hot, and they want to enjoy their warm weather at home when they finally get some!!
Pattern number two: the hotels in the Caribbean lose from thirty to fifty percent of their business during the North American summer--they'll often bend over backwards to arrange a cheap Caribbean travel package for you--after all, someone in their resort is far better than no one.
Take advantage of their slow season--get your Caribbean vacation for less by knowing how to decode the seasonal patterns. |
